In case you missed the big banner at the top, my new book Exalted: Putting Jesus in His Place is now available. You can read a free preview here. You can buy it at the following locations. (For what it's worth, all royalties will be split between Cross to Crown Ministries and my church.)
Last summer, during a 3-month sabbatical graciously granted by my church, I wrote a book. Its theme and contents had been welling up inside me for several years. In fact, I had tried to write the book on a previous sabbatical, but it wryly eluded me. This time I caught it and secured it to the parchment.
Since finishing the manuscript, I have deliberated about whether to pursue a traditional publisher or aim in another direction. After extensive research, prayer, and several discussions, I decided to publish it with Cross to Crown Ministries, a decision that excites me for two reasons. First, it is gratifying to bring this project near to completion. (Writing a book is pleasure; publishing it is satisfaction.) Second, since we began this ministry, publishing books has been a future desire. It appears that the future is now.
Soon, I'll give you more details on the book itself.
There is a good reason for the recent inactivity here on the blog. We have been working hard to complete our first book publication. Yes, we are set to enter the publishing world. The inaugural work is in its final stages. I'll keep you posted.
New Covenant School of Theology is about to start it's next block course. Don't forget that you may attend the first two classes for free!
This course serves three purposes. First, to explore the teaching of the so-called "Pastoral Epistles" of the NT (1 & 2 Timothy, Titus, Philemon). Second, to understand the biblical pattern for church authority and leadership. Third, to learn what the responsibilities of pastors and elders are within the church. The class considers both the formal duties and the "personal life" of the minister. The benefit to the non-elder/pastor student will be a better understanding of the Lord's design for shepherding His flock as well as principles that apply to any ministry in the church.
Required reading:What is the "Law of Christ"? What is our standard of righteousness under the New Covenant?
Blake White does an outstanding job of answering those questions in this sermon. I commend it to you. Blake will explain what the Christian ethic is according to the New Testament, and you will be challenged to examine your love for others in comparison to Christ's love for others.
We have big dreams for producing Christ-exalting, gospel-proclaiming music. Currently, our attention must be focused elsewhere. But when the time is right, and if the Lord allows, we will be singing a new song or two. Stay tuned.
Big changes are on the horizon for the website portion of our ministry. A new design is coming soon. Today we introduce a more substantial development. Beginning with the post below, we will be blogging with greater earnestness according to our mission—to motivate Christians to become intentionally Christ-obsessed in all things. We are going to walk through books of the Bible with a specific view to how they point toward and reveal Jesus. They will not be commentaries, but rather Christ-exalting, gospel-proclaiming devotionals. We pray they will help many understand Christ to be the story of the Bible and of their own lives. Our plan is to go through several biblical books simultaneously. Today, we begin with Josh's introduction to First Peter (below).
We haven't been blogging much lately, but don't let that persuade you that nothing is happening at Cross to Crown. It couldn't be further from the truth. Stay tuned!
